For nearly two decades, First 5 has been a leader in providing essential and effective services for California’s youngest children.
In 1998, California voters passed Proposition 10, the ballot initiative that created First 5 commissions in every county to support the healthy development of children from birth through five years of age – the time when 90% of brain development occurs. Last year alone, First 5 county commissions invested nearly $560 million to improve the lives of California children- more than the top private and community foundations combined.
The First 5 Association of California unites all 58 First 5 county commissions around a common agenda that prioritizes the following key impact areas:
- Family Strengthening
- Early Identification
- Oral Health
- Quality Early Learning
- System Sustainability & Reach
