The best growth strategy for California

The First 5 Association of California partners with the 58 First 5 county commissions counties and the state First 5 commission to:

  • Ensure better health, early learning opportunities, and family strengthening for all children 0-5 and their families;
  • Support the effective stewardship of Proposition 10 funds and the efficient operation of the 58 First 5 county commissions;
  • Foster collaboration with other funders, state and county agencies, and child advocacy organizations; and
  • Protect public resources for young children.

During fiscal year 2013-14, First 5 county commissions invested over $545 million to improve the lives of 984,302 California children.

Who We Are

The Association is a nonprofit membership organization for the 58 First 5 county commissions.  The Association connects commissions to other public and nonprofit partners, including county departments, foundations, and child advocacy organizations to ensure collaboration and a common statewide agenda to ensure the best future for our children.

California Children and Families Foundation

The Association is a nonprofit public benefit corporation, organized as a social welfare organization under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(4).  The work of the Association is also supported by a separate organization, the California Children and Families Foundation, which is a nonprofit public benefit corporation organized for charitable and educational purposes under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3).  The Foundation conducts regional and statewide projects that assist county commissions and the children and families they serve, complementing the activities of the Association.
